Getting a Dog License

Being a dog owner entails numerous responsibilities. One of these is registering your dog with your municipal government and getting him or her licensed. By licensing your dog, you increase your chances of finding him if he/she gets lost and validates that his vaccinations are up to date. With a valid dog license you are entitled to use the Hampstead Park dog run and are provided with a special electronic key.

Why you need a dog license

It’s the law. Dog owners are obligated by law to have their pets licensed. Anyone caught without a valid license is liable to a fine of $50 for the first offence and $100 for a second offence. To view By-law 761-3 Concerning Dogs, please click the link.

Dog licenses allow the Town to confirm that dogs are vaccinated against contagious diseases like rabies. And at the same time lets everyone know that your dog is up to date on his vaccinations. It also ensures both dog owners and their pets are protected from diseases.

They also help us in returning lost dogs by being able to track their owners. A license tag helps to identify your dog and get him back to you safely.
