High Holiday Security Advisory

As the Holidays are drawing close, we will be welcoming friends, relatives and getting ready for the celebrations.

All things good will be better if we place close attention to HOME SECURITY.

In the last six weeks, there were four home break-ins in Hampstead.

Our Public Security Department, in collaboration with the SPVM, have identified two suspects and an investigation is underway. However, we must not be complacent and let our guards down and become vulnerable.

  • Break-ins often happen during the day when people are away.
  • Acknowledge door bells by tuning on lights and asking questions via intercom or through the door.
  • Do NOT open the door to strangers on any pretense.
  • Educate your domestic help and make them aware of the risks.

  • Ensure garage doors are closed.
  • Do not leave garage openers in cars and always LOCK your cars.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors.
  • Do not leave ladders or garden furniture close to windows as they could be used to climb up.
  • Leave an outside light on in the backyard.
  • Use the Canada Post hold-mail service when you are away.
  • Cancel the newspaper delivery.
  • Have someone check your house or park a car in the driveway.
  • Activate your alarm when leaving the house.
  • Do not keep valuables at home, and definitely not in the bedroom.

By following these helpful tips, you could avoid a break-in at your home.

Should you arrive home and suspect that you have been broken into (broken window, door, etc.), please call 911 immediately as well as Hampstead Public Security (514) 369-8250, from your car. Do NOT enter the house and do NOT confront any suspects.
